Hello, on May 3rd 2015, you’ll be organizing the Sydkustloppet – Trelleborgs Halvmara. Can you tell us where it is located?

This race follows the coastline along the Baltic Sea in southern Sweden, and the goal is actually at the southern most point of Sweden!

How old is the race and why was it created in the first place?

The race was first arranged in 2009. I had started running the year before just to get in better shape, and I had set a personal goal to run a half marathon along our scenic coastline. Then I realized that there must be more people that would like to join me and race together, so I presented the idea to my longtime friends, and they said “Let’s do it!”.

What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it?

We run eastward with the Baltic Sea as our constant companion, starting on the golf course, running through the city center of Trelleborg and then down to the East beach and onwards on soft nature paths all the way to Smyghuk – the southern most point of Sweden! The course is flat but not all that easy, thanks to narrow, bumpy and sometimes sandy paths. You can count on lots of fresh air and better hope for tailwind!

How many runners do you expect? What type of runners do you plan to attract?

Last year we were 700 runners starting. We are hoping to continue our growth and hope for 800-900 runners.

Do you organize other races during the Weekend? If so, on what distances?

It is only the half marathon.

At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect?

We like to say that we are welcoming the spring, so hopefully sunny, 13-16°C ( 55-60°F) and slight eastbound winds.

Have you planned festivities around the race?

Planning in progress… Earlier years have seen After Run Parties, but since we have moved to a Sunday this year, we are considering a Pre Pasta Party on the eve before instead.

The race finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Trelleborg before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing?

There is a Viking Centre in Trelleborg, built around a reconstruction of an actual Viking Castle from the 10-11 the Century.

In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of ahotu Marathons to make them register for the Sydkustloppet – Trelleborgs Halvmara?

Come join us when we welcome the spring by running along a beautiful coastline with loads of fresh air and sand in your shoes.
