Hello, on September 17th 2017, you’ll be organizing the Caribou Maine Marathon. Can you tell us where it is located?

All around the great City of Caribou!

How old is the race and why was it created in the first place?

This is the second year the race will be run. We wanted to create something in Caribou that would encourage locals to adopt a healthy lifestyle as well as entice visitors from across the country to our wonderful city.

What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it?

The route is USATF certified. Last year it was difficult. The area is not flat, and there were a LOT of hills. Runners found it a good challenge.

However, we decided to re-certify a flatter, faster course for the 2017 and beyond races. This course is not “flat”, but it is much better and still just as beautiful. Fall foliage, it runs along the Aroostook River for part of it, and truly gives you a great tour of Caribou.

What are the distances on the agenda?

Full Marathon, Half Marathon and a kids race. We also have relay races available for both the full and half, as well as hand cycle and push rim races of the Full Marathon

How many runners do you expect on Sunday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract?

We’re hopeful for 500-800. We will get a lot of local athletes as well as athletes doing races in various states and parts of the country. Our races is the Most Northeastern Certified Marathon in the United States.

At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect?

It’s hard to say! Cool usually. Last year it was actually warmer than expected, almost muggy. Typically though, it is cool, sometimes even cold!

Have you planned festivities around the event?

Yes, we have a pre-race dinner and expo the night before featuring a live band!

The race finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Caribou before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing?

We have a ton of new restaurants in the area. Live music often plays at a couple. We have food (and drinks) for every taste.

In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of ahotu Marathons to make them register for the Caribou Maine Marathon?

The hospitality here is like no other. We will go above and beyond to make this the most enjoyable race (from registration to crossing the finish line), that you’ve ever experienced.
